Juventus news: Midfielder soldiers on despite fitness concerns

According to what has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi is amongst the most tired in Massimiliano Allegri’s roster. Matuidi has been playing nearly non-stop with both the Bianconeri and the French national team, yet has no time to rest.

Juventus are currently in an injury-crisis in the midfield, with Emre Can, Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira all currently out with injuries. Therefore, Matuidi must continue to play and he will likely do so alongside Bentancur in a midfield two. Reports suggest Allegri is willing to adapt his formation to a 4-4-2 rather than his typical 4-3-3. With this, Bentancur and Matuidi would occupy the middle, Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado on the wings and Mario Mandzukic and Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

31-year-old Matuidi has played 11 times for Juventus in Serie A this season (10 starts, 1 sub) and has featured in all four of Juventus’ Champions League games (3 starts, 1 sub). Matuidi has also played all four of France’s UEFA Nations league games and featured heavily for Les Bleus in their FIFA World Cup win.
