Juventus plan to sign Witsel as a free agent as player announces Zenit stay

Axel Witsel is not going to leave Zenit St. Petersburg this summer, the player has told Rsport.

“I’ve decided: I want to stay at Zenit for one more season and then we’ll see.”

The Belgium International’s contract, however, expires in June 2017, which means the player is free to sign with any other club from January 2017.

Juventus are already in contact with the player’s entourage and have informed them that they will try to sign the former Benfica ace for free if he’s really not going to extend his stay with the Russian club.

The Old Lady, however, hopes that Witsel’s claim would convince Zenit to lower the player’s price-tag in order not to lose him for nothing in one year time.

Juventus don’t want to spend more than € 15 million, Zenit’s asking price is € 30 million.
