Juventus transfer news: interest in Man Utd target resumed, Lichtsteiner not for sale

Juventus’ recent injury crisis may force the Old Lady to change her transfer strategies for the January window. Although the signing of a new centre midfielder is still the priority for the current Serie A leaders, Marotta is now also considering whether to add some depth to the squad’s defensive pack, given the long-time injuries of Dani Alves and Andrea Barzagli and the muscular hassles of both Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

In addition to that, Medhi Benatia has been failing to live up to expectations so far this season and that’s why Juventus have resumed their interest in Manchester United target Victor Lindelof.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been heavily linked with joining the Old Trafford hierarchy in the January window with his compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has also backed the Benfica defender to join a big club like Manchester United.

Lindelof has a release clause of € 30 million, but Benfica could be open to negotiate a lower fee in case they fail to qualify to the Champions League knock-out stage. Just a few weeks ago, Juventus were not interested in signing Lindelof, but injuries of their defence stars will see the bianconeri challenging Manchester United for the signing of the Sweden International.

As for the role of right-back, Barcelona target Stephan Lichtsteiner has quickly switched his supersub status becoming a regular starter for the Old Lady given the injury of Dani Alves who will remain out of action for four months with a fibula fracture.

The ‘Swiss train’ contract expires at the end of the season, but Juventus have an option to extend the player’s deal for one more season. Juventus’ chiefs have been left impressed by the player’s attitude and behaviour despite the arrival of Dani Alves and are intended to offer him a contract extension to ward off the interest of the LaLiga giants.
