Last ditch effort made to retain Barca, Juve, Liverpool target

Highly sought after forward Leon Goretzka’s future is the subject of much speculation. The German international has enjoyed a breakout tenure at Schalke, and now finds himself linked to clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, and Liverpool. However, if we are to believe his sporting director, there’s a good chance he could stay in the blue and white colors of Schalke.

“We are convinced that we have to have him stay here without putting pressure,” said Christian Heidel to Sky Deutschland. “We are trying to convince him, even in the economic aspect. We've made the most of possible efforts, we cannot do more.”

Interest in Goretzka has escalated in recent months, and the 22-year-old would make for a smart acquisition either on a free transfer next summer or in a cut-price winter transfer should the Bundesliga club opt to cash in. His contract expires in June.

Recently, we reported that Barcelona has made contact with Goretzka, in anticipation of making a move for the striker.
