Latest: Man United came close to signing €222m Neymar in 2016

Neymar came within a whisker of joining Manchester United last summer in a world record deal only for the move to break down at the last minute.

Manchester United were very close to signing Neymar last summer, according to L’Equipe.

The Red Devils may regret their failure even more now that the Brazilian star is close to moving to Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million.

Then again, a report from the Independent claims that the Mancunians didn’t really believe Neymar wanted to join.

Rather, they suspected that the two-time La Liga winner - who also won the Champions League in 2015 against Juventus - was simply angling for a new deal.

Paris Saint-Germain seem to have made it happen this time around, with Barcelona themselves posting the news of the 25-year-old’s departure on their website.

Neymar nabbed 20 La Liga goals last season, and is reported to be ready to pick up Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Number 10 shirt.
