EXCLUSIVE: Lazio set sights on former Juve target

Calciomercato.com can exclusively reveal that Lazio set sights on Shalke 04 central midfielder Leon Goretzka, a player who was close to join Juventus back in 2013.

The 20-year-old midfielder, a product of the Bochum Academy, is the prototype of the modern day central midfielder. He combines physical strength with technique and personality. Consider that he has already 18 seasonal appearances (13 Bundesliga, 5 Europa League), despite he’s only 20.

Goretzka joined Shalke 04 in 2013 on a € 3.25 million deal from Bochum, though his current price-tag is believed to be in the region of € 10 million, a bit too expensive for Claudio Lotito’s taste.

Lazio seems not eager to sign him in January as manager Stefano Pioli is full of option in the midfield, but with Lucas Biglia, Antonio Candreva and Felipe Anderson who are reported to be edging Lazio exit next summer, the U-21 Germany International’s captain could be the right reinforcement for the next campaign.
