Liverpool, Everton target coy on signing new deal with Napoli

Dries Mertens was rather vague about the possibility of signing a new deal with Napoli.

The Everton and Liverpool target was supposed to have signed a new deal recently with a €40 million clause, one which would have only become active in two years’ time.

Talking to local paper Il mattino, however, the Belgian simply said “we’ll see…” when asked about his new deal.

The scorer of 11 goals in 16 Serie A games, the Belgian international has gone on a tear, especially when one considers that all those goals have come in his last ten games.

Having added another four in Champions league action (and two more assists), the 29-year-old has been attracting a lot of attention, with Everton making a €15m bid.

The winger seemed quite committed to Napoli in the interview, saying that one of his objectives for the new season was to "keep things going as they are going”, as well as "winning any trophy with Napoli”.
