Liverpool target set for Lazio renewal

Reports in Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com) state that Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij is close to agreeing a new deal to remain at Lazio. The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a summer move to Liverpool after reports earlier in the year that he had decided to leave the Italian capital at the end of the last campaign.

De Vrij’s current deal expires in 12 months’ time but the Biancocelesti have proposed a new agreement worth €2M-a-season but there is still discussions to take place to formulate the release  clause. Lazio patron Cladio Lotito wants to make that clause €40M whilst the player himself is understood to not want that valuation to exceed €25M.

If the two parties come to an agreement it will be another bitter blow for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp who has already lost out on de Vrij’s international team-mate Virgil van Dijk.
