Llorente: ‘Why I snubbed Chelsea to join Tottenham’

New Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente talked to Marca on the eve of the game between Spurs and Real Madrid in Champions League.

The Spaniard was on the verge of joining Chelsea in the summer transfer window but he eventually joined Tottenham instead.

The former Juve star has finally explained why he took that decision.

“It was difficult decision to make. Conte signed me at Juve and wanted me to join him at Chelsea. He had tried to sign me in January as well. Chelsea, however, failed to reach an agreement with Swansea and Tottenham were much quicker than the Blues. Pochettino called me on the 30th of August and I was attracted by his project. I thought I would have joined Chelsea but in the end Tottenham were quicker to reach an agreement with Swansea and they signed me. I’d have joined Chelsea but for all these reasons I eventually joined Spurs.”

“I knew Pochettino. I knew he worked well at Espanyol and Southampton. He changed everything at Tottenham in three years. He is such a great manager, the project is amazing here. I am really happy to have joined Tottenham.”
