Mahrez like Payet: former Roma and Man Utd target set for January exit as price-tag drops

Riyad Mahrez is not in the form of his life and his snub from the 30 best African players of the year proves the Algerian star is not the same player he used to be less than two years ago. Just think that in 2016 he was awarded as the best player of his continent, whilst today he is not even among the 30 best African players.

No secret Roma tried to sign him this past summer. The giallorossi made several attempts to sign him but failed to match Leicester City’s € 44 million price-tag.

The player pushed to leave Leicester City and in the deadline day he travelled to Barcelona to force his exit with Chelsea and Manchester United also interested.

Now his price-tag has dramatically dropped and reports in France claim the player could imitate Dimitri Payet and move to Marseille in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman was one of Europe’s most wanted footballers after Euro 2016 but a few months later his market value had decreased with the Ligue 1 giants who managed to seal his transfer for a fee close to € 30 million.

The same could happen in the incoming winter transfer window with Mahrez as Marseille are being linked with welcoming his services as well. The Algerian could be the next big signing of the Ligue 1 giants, another cheap January signing of a Premier League top player whose price-tag is lowering day by day.
