Man United close to Chelsea midfielder deal

Manchester United are edging closer to a deal for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, with the possibility of the transfer being wrapped and sealed by the end of this week, according to ESPN.

Following a thwarted attempt to bring Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive-midfielder Eric Dier to Old Trafford, Man United boss Jose Mourinho has turned his attention to 28-year-old Matic.

Mourinho feels that the Red Devils are in need of a player to fill the holding role, a midfielder who can create play from deep, and with the reported £40m price tag for a multiple Premier League winning player, Mourinho is looking at a decent deal for the Serbian.

Rumours have recently circulated regarding Matic’s possible switch to the Manchester side, but it seems like it has now stepped up a gear.

Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko is a target for west-London side Chelsea; if he were to make to move across to The Pensioners, it would open the door for Matic to last years’ Europa League winners – in a deal that Mourinho hopes will be wrapped up before their flight to the States.
