Man United confident of landing Chelsea midfielder in lieu of Dier snub
According to The Guardian, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has pinpointed Matic as one of the most crucial targets in solidifying the Manchester club’s defensive-midfield. Dier was their first choice, but they have run into a brick wall as Spurs turned down three of their offers - most recently a £40m bid.
This has frustrated Mourinho, who is encountering, like other managers, the difficulties of an inflated market.
He went for a £35m bid for Matic initially, but this was turned down, and so he looked back at Dier and was snubbed there again. But now there is a feeling that Mourinho can get Matic over the line – with a fee of around £50m being mooted.
The inflated price not only stems from the pricey summer window but also from Chelsea wanting to chip away at their title rivals and their former boss.
