Man United edge closer to Nainggolan deal despite contract extension

Manchester United are one step closer to bringing their target Radja Nainggolan to Old Trafford, despite the Belgium international signing a contract extension with Serie A club Roma that would see him play for the Italian side until June 2021.

Il Tempo report that Man United boss Jose Mourinho is tempting the 29-year-old away from the Stadio Olimpico in a deal which would see the midfielder earn €7.5m net per year.

Roma recently installed Monchi as their new sporting director but he would only be able to offer Nainggolan a €5m per year salary.

However, the Giallorossi have some leverage as they are no longer required to sell any more of their best players to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, as Mohamed Salah recently joined Premier League side Liverpool and Kostas Manolas and Leandro Paredes are on their way out too.

Whilst Nainggolan was on international duty, he was asked about the rumours circulating but did not give too much away: “Maybe it’s true, maybe it isn’t.”
“Right now I just want to go on vacation, then we’ll see what happens.”
