For James Rodriguez, the World Cup in 2014 was the showcase of a lifetime. Already a hot commodity with Monaco, the Colombian put his stamp on world football in the summer of 2014. Then came a massive transfer to Real Madrid for a massive 75 million EUR, and the attacking midfielder looked as if he was the best rising star at the time.

 

Three years have passed and James has not found his life in Spain as memorable as he would have hoped for. Finding himself in and out of the lineup for the Merengues, the 25 year old has endured moments of difficulty littered with moments of sublime beauty. The touch, skill, and shooting ability of the Colombian have brought him fame and fortune. But his time with Real Madrid now seems to be shrinking ever so quickly. After only having started in 13 La Liga games this year for Los Blancos, James has seen his time on the field waver. Changing roles and formations have forced him to play mostly as a substitute.
