Man Utd: Rashford reveals his surprising childhood idol
With his continued success, and penchant for finding the back of the net, it’s reasonable to assume he idolized a forward as a child. However, he revealed that his favorite player growing up was Manchester United’s American goalkeeper Tim Howard.
In fact, when he started at his youth club he was a goalkeeper. “My first season, I went in net,” said Rashford, in an interview with The Sunday Times. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of Howard.
"Tim Howard was my idol. I used to have a little Tim Howard shirt. You watch, there'll be a game ... I'm going to get the gloves one day!” Howard was United’s keeper 2003 to 2007 before moving to his incredible decade-long run with Everton.
If, for some unfortunate reason, Rashford cannot continue as a striker, it seems he has a bright future as a goalkeeper. “The thrill of scoring a goal, you get that same thrill when you save a good chance.”
