Manchester United in talks to sign Kostas Manolas next summer

Premier League giants Manchester United are in talks to sign Roma defender Kostas Manolas.

The Greek defender has become one of the Serie A's most prominent defenders over the last two seasons and registered his name in the history books with a header against Barcelona that took Roma into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season.

Reports in Greek talk of United being in talks with Manolas in an attempt to bring him to Old Trafford, as the player has a release clause of about 36 million euros.

We understand that while Manolas has a clause of 36 million euros, United can't sign him this month because the release clause does not apply for the ongoing winter transfer window.

If the Red Devils want to sign him by triggering the release clause, they will only be able to sign him next summer. If they want him this month, they will have to pay more than the release clause now since it will not apply to the winter window.

Talks that are ongoing apply for next summer only, as the Old Trafford side will want to trigger the clause and sign him next summer.
