The future of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi looks to have finally been settled after reports from Spain that the player has agreed in principle to a new deal with Barcelona. The 29-year-old’s current contract has just 12 months left to run and there were growing fears that he may be about to depart the club as talks on extending it ran into difficulties.
 

Sports daily Marca however, claims that there is an outline deal in place but that the length of the new agreement is yet to be decided. There have been more unconfirmed reports that Messi is set to earn himself €35M-a-season but there is still confusion of whether it will expire in 2021 or 2022.
 

Now the club’s legal team will set about clearing up the final details to finally end speculation that he has played his last game for the club which has turned him into the best player in the history of the game.
