Milan: Gattuso 'scares' Montella with judgement day approaching

Like an attacking midfielder entering the final third at the San Siro in the 2000’s, Vincenzo Montella can hear the footsteps of Gennaro Gattuso, and a sense of dread no doubt is sinking in. However, it’s not his health that the Milan manager is concerned about, it’s about his livelihood.

As his Serie A squad continues to struggle, and ever growing rumors of his dismissal grow louder, Montella’s job seems to, once again, hang in the balance when Milan take on Sassuolo on Sunday.

A failure to get a result will seem to find him on the unemployment line come Monday. Even with a result, it’s quite possible that his fate has already been sealed.

Now, as Gattuso’s primavera side rattled off its fifth consecutive victory, it appears he’ll be the beneficiary of such a decision. Having conceded only two goals in six games, Milan executives see the potential for him to quickly fix the Serie A side’s structural problems, and lead them to a positive results path.
