Monchi: ‘I’m surprised by Zaniolo, but Inter are not fools’

Roma director of football Monchi spoke to Sky Sport on Thursday night. The former Sevilla director discussed the impact of Nicolò Zaniolo who arrived at the club last summer as part of the player plus cash swap deal that brought Radja Nainggolan to Inter.

“We wanted to players: Radu and Zaniolo. The first had already been loaned out to Genoa”.

“Inter didn’t want to sell Zaniolo, they are not fools. However, they really wanted to sign Nainggolan so they had to adapt and concede us something. The deal, however, would have been finalized also without Zaniolo, Inter weren’t obliged to sell him to us. I am surprised, I didn’t expect him to have such a big impact so quickly”.
