AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has spoken of the terrific relationship he has with the club’s fans, dealing a blow to Chelsea and Manchester United’s hopes of signing him.

Nainggolan, currently 29, has made eight Serie A appearances for Roma this season, scoring once and assisting twice.

The Belgian midfielder was talking to UEFA about a host of issues and he also opened up about Roma fans and what the club means to him.

He said: “When I left Cagliari I wanted to take a very important step. I could have chosen so many others in the past, but I waited for the right time too because at that time the president did not want me to let go so easily . I came with the awareness that in a big team you have to work very hard.”

“I try to work very hard and now I have a great relationship with the people: I feel respected and I always try to give my all in every game I play.”

Chelsea and Manchester United had drawn strong links with Nainggolan this past summer, but his statement suggests he could be at Roma for sometime now.
