Napoli transfer strategy is focused on the future after the signing of Alberto Grassi

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has decided: he’s fed up with foreign players and only wants to sign young, Italian players who know already what the Serie A is about.

Bayer Leverkusen star Christoph Kramer could be the only exception but his San Paolo move in January seems highly unlikely.

In the meanwhile, the Partenopei are closing in on the signing of Atalanta wonderkid Alberto Grassi: a 20-year-old who can play everywhere in midfield. Grassi has made 16 Serie A appearances since his debut last year and despite his young age he is already an experienced and reliable midfielder.

Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to imitate Juventus’ transfer strategy as the Old Lady has been signing the best Italian prospects out there.

Both Cristian Giuntoli and Maurizio Sarri like Grassi and Napoli are ready to pay € 10 million (8 + 2 bonuses) to secure the player’s services.

Atalanta, by the way, would prefer to retain the player until the end of the season but Napoli want Grassi to join the San Paolo in January.

Should the 20-year-old swop his current club for Napoli in the current transfer window, La Dea have asked to replace him with Napoli outcast Omar El Kaddouri.

With Chelsea loanee Nathaniel Chalobah who’s set to remain at Napoli until the end of the season, Giuntoli could allow El Kaddouri to join Atalanta.

Napoli are also interested in Atalanta promising goalkeeper Marco Sportiello and they could get an option to buy him next summer as the 23-year-old is considered the natural heir of veteran Pepe Reina at the San Paolo.

Napoli have also been linked with welcoming the services of Atalanta’s 21-year-old right-back Andrea Conti.
