Newcastle make offer for Valencia midfielder and French forward

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is supposedly a man who likes to play politics. Reports in the English press came out recently suggesting that he is unhappy with the club’s lack of transfer activity so far, following their superb promotion to the Premier League.

This is has also not been helped by murmurs of owner Mike Ashley’s intention to sell the club to Chinese investors.

Local ‘paper Shields Gazette – via reports in France and Spain – are saying that an offer has now been laid on the table for Valencia’s Argentine midfielder Enzo Perez for £8.8m and the Toon Army are keen on 20-year-old forward Adama Diakhaby from French side Rennes.

The Newcastle Chronicle, another local publication, did claim last week that offers have been made by the north-east club, but movement has been slow Newcastle’s end, fuelling speculation over Benitez’s future at side in black and white.

The former Liverpool manager, though, has grown emotionally attached the club he has been at for 15 months and is set for an important meeting with club M.D Lee Charnley. Should a transfer occur in the coming days, it should set the ball rolling, with the side having sights set on a prosperous season in the next campaign.
