Not just Ancelotti: Ranieri among candidates for Italy job

Italy are considering a number of Coaches to replace Gian Piero Ventura, including Claudio Ranieri.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, former Milan, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich Coach Carlo Ancelotti is still top of the list, but he isn’t the only name on it: Max Allegri, Claudio Ranieri and Walter Mazzarri are also being considered.

The FIGC held a summit yesterday evening in which they sacked Coach Ventura, but did not even discuss president Carlo Tavecchio’s future.

Mazzarri’s CV seems particularly limited: once one excludes his good work with Napoli, Reggina and (arguably) Sampdoria, there’s not a lot left.

The Tuscan was sacked a few months into his Watford experience after leading the side closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table.

Claudio Ranieri has been successful in recent years, winning the Premier League with Leicester City and doing very well with Roma and Nantes. Then again, he also failed miserably as Greece Coach, and was about to call it a day when he received a call from the Foxes as he was about to go on holiday.
