Official: Napoli release Insigne medical update

Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri has dubbed Lorenzo Insigne to be a doubt for the club’s weekend clash against Inter Milan after the Italian was taken off early from Napoli’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City yesterday. Two early goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus had set the tone for a City win and the Dries Mertens penalty only made things worse for the men from Naples.

Young Amadou Diawara did make it 2-1 by stroking away a penalty of his own, but it didn’t prove enough for Sarri’s men to go home with a point. Insigne was withdrawn in the second half due a thigh injury and the partenopei are sweating over the 26-year-old’s fitness. Club president Aurelio de Laurentiis said: “Insigne was taken off in a precautionary move against Manchester (City) match in the Champions League and he is receiving treatment for a thigh injury. We will assess him day by day.”

Napoli currently top the Serie A charts with 24 points, two points clear of Saturday’s opponents Inter Milan. Insigne’s absence could be key to the game at the Stadio San Paolo.
