Official: Rudiger joins Chelsea for £41m
The German underwent his medical today, and signed for a fee believed to be £31 million, though bonuses could take it up to £35m.
The 24-year-old has had two very strong seasons at Roma, moving from Stuttgart for only € 9.5 million. He has since played 56 Serie A games, and recovered from an ACL injury to play a starring role for the Giallorossi.
"It’s a great feeling because not every player has the opportunity to join a huge club like this,” Rudiger told Chelsea’s website.
"I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and I’m very proud to officially become a Chelsea player."
Reports earlier today indicated that the medical may have been rushed along to appease manager Antonio Conte, the ex-Juventus Coach angry that his side missed out on Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United for €75 million recently.
