OFFICIAL: Sinisa Mihajlovic named as Torino coach

Sinisa Mihajlovic has been appointed as Torino coach and replaced Giampiero Ventura. The Granata’s official website released an official statement earlier which read: “Torino Football Club is proud to announce that Sinisa Mihajlovic will be the new coach from next season. He has signed a two-year contract.”

The announcement came after the news that Ventura, heavily linked with the Italy job, would step down after five years at the helm: "The President Urbano Cairo would like to thank Giampiero Ventura for the great job done together and for the brilliant results achieved in this experience which has been immensely satisfying for both parties. A constant rise, enriched by the writing of unforgettable pages in Torino’s recent history: the seventh-place finish, European qualification after 20 years, the incredible run culminating in the first victory of an Italian team in Bilbao, the improvement of so many players and their subsequent national team call-ups as well as breaking a long list of records. They have been five great years: from the President to the youngest of the youth teams, all of Torino FC wishes Giampiero Ventura the best and all the luck that he deserves for the next stage of his career."

Mihajlovic, who was only sacked from AC Milan in April, said the following after his appointment: “I want to thank the President Urbano Cairo, the director Petrachi and everyone at Torino for the trust they’ve shown in me. To be able to work at a club with a history as glorious and prestigious as Torino is an immense source of pride for me. This is a unique club, the Granata fans are renowned in Italy for their passion, their support for the team and their strong sense of attachment to the club. These are important values, that I can relate to, and also for this reason I can’t wait to start.”
