Official: Sydney FC sign Del Piero. Milan: Spalletti for the future? Merkel unlikely to join

The news item was in the air, but now it's official: 37 year old forward Alessandro Del Piero, free agent since last June, when his contract with Juventus has expired, has signed a two-year deal with Sydney FC. The player will earn 1,6 million euros per season and will held a press conference in Turin at 1,30 pm. The Australian club has overtaken FC Sion, Olympiacos, Sporting Braga, Southampton and Liverpool in the hunt for the former World Champions.

Yesterday AC Milan Chief Executive Adriano Galliani has confirmed that there are no problems between him and coach Massimiliano Allegri, but has also sublined that he is upset about the high number of injuries suffered by the rossoneri. And, as reported this morning by the Corriere dello Sport, since the arrival of Allegri two years ago, in the Lombard team there have been 137 injuries, 78 of which for muscolar reasons. The victory against Bologna has brought a bit of serenity at Milanello, but the relations between the young coach and Galliani remain tense. Moreover, in the Champions League group stage, the rossoneri will have to face Russian giant Zenit St. Petersburg, trained by 53 year old Luciano Spalletti, who, by the way, has been tracked in the past by Milan executives. Is he going to be Allegri's heir? Moreover, in the last days there have been some rumours about a possible return to Milan of 20 year old midfielder Alexander Merkel, actually at Genoa, but, interviewed by calciomercato.com, the Ligurian club's president Enrico Preziosi has declared that, at least for the moment, he doesn't consider such option too realistic
