OFFICIAL: VAR to be introduced in the Champions League from knockout stage
It was only a matter of time, but from today it is official: VAR will be introduced in the current Champions League edition starting from the last 16. UEFA executives decided this in Dublin where they gathered for the draw of the Nations League Final Four and will now officially introduce the Video Assistant Referee to try and avoid controversies in the top European competition.
UEFA president Cerefin also announced that the technology will be used from the 2019/2020 season, but the introduction has been moved ahead and it will also be used during the European Under-21 Championship scheduled in Italy in June.
