OPINIOIN: Premier League clubs should waste less pounds and hire more Paratici

Premier League is widely considered the best league in the world, the league that is leading the way in Europe, despite results of big clubs in European competitions have been very disappointing of late. Record sponsorships were not enough for Manchester United and Chelsea to claim a Champions League spot this season. A new, modern, stadium was not enough for Arsenal to win the league, whilst investments of their powerful owner have yet not brought Man City on top of Europe.

The Premier League is the league with the most clubs in European competitions in the last five years (8), but they now sit 3rd in the UEFA ranking, behind runaway leaders La Liga and second-placed Bundesliga. The Serie A is edging closer and closer and at the beginning of the next season there will be only 1.9 point between the Italian and the English league on the UEFA ranking.

Having so much money available to spend, what Premier League clubs are lacking the most is definitely organization. It comes as no surprise than that most of English clubs don’t have the role of sporting director and it usually happens that scouts usually talk directly with managers who have no time to negotiate and place the highest offer possible to kill the competition from other clubs.

There is not a figure like Juventus’ Fabio Paratici in any Premier League club. Paratici, alongside Beppe Marotta was able to build a competitive team also for the Champions League, using each single penny of a budget that has never been unlimited. They got Llorente, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba and Khedira for free, they bought Barzagli for only € 300.000, Tevez and Vidal for less than € 20 million combined.

Hoping that Premier League clubs will finally notice that also a model like Juventus can be a winning one, seeing for Serie A clubs playing the Champions League from the next seasons is not an impossible dream anymore.
