OPINION: Pressure on Pereyra in his last chances to shine for Juventus

Roberto Pereyra’s second season at the J Staadium has been quite a disappointment for all Juve fans as well as for the Old Lady’s tactician Massimiliano Allegri.

The former Udinese midfielder was Juventus’ ‘12th man’ last term when he racked up 52 appearances, scoring six goals. His fantasy combined with vision and technical qualities caused all sort of troubles to each of the Bianconeri’s opponents last season.

AS CM.com’s Gianluca Minchiotti points out, things are not quite going the same way this term as the Argentina International has yet to score his first seasonal goal despite 13 appearances. The player has also struggled with a series of injuries this term, but scoring goals, however is not Pereyra’s main feature.
OPINION: Pressure on Pereyra in his last chances to shine for JuventusWhat concerns Massimiliano Allegri the most is the player’s tendency to disappear from games, not to mention his lack of intensity. Pereyra seems to have became an unimaginative player and Allegri is well aware of that, so much so he admitted during today’s pre-match press conference he expect more from the Tucumano.

“Pereyra is fit, he’s ok and he has worked very well recently. I expect a lot from him, he’ll have o make the difference now  because during the first six months of this season he failed to do the same he did last term.”

Juventus made Pereyra’s move from Udinese permanent for a fee of € 14 million last summer and the player’s contract runs until 2020. Despite that, Pereyra has now eight games to convince Allegri and Juventus he has the quality and potential to be part of next season’s team. Should he continue delivering this kind of disappointing performances, his future could be object of scrutiny in the summer.
