Portuguese midfielder to snub Manchester United (again) for a move to Barcelona

Manchester United could miss out on Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches for a second time after reports from Spain suggest that he is holding out for a move to Barcelona. According to Diario Gol, the 19-year-old Bayern Munich man has his heart set on a move to the Camp Nou despite United boss Jose Mourinho trying to encourage him to make the switch to Old Trafford.

New Barca boss Ernesto Valverde is looking for new young talent in his central area to replace the ageing Andres Iniesta and the departing Arda Turan. Sanches, whose agent is the same as that of Mourinho, Jorge Mendes, is understood to be seen as a cheaper option to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho as the Catalan giants look to try to reclaim the Spanish league title back from Real Madrid next season.

Ironically, Mourinho has been reported previously as wanting to use his relationship with Mendes to try to convince Sanches that United would be the perfect place for him to develop after a disappointing 12 months at Bayern Munich.
