Ranieri opens up to possibility of coaching Italy

Claudio Ranieri would not be able to refuse should he be asked to lead the Italian national team. The current Nantes coach is one of several candidates to succeed Giampiero Ventura at the helm. During an interview with Rai Sport, the 66-year-old opened up to the possibility of taking over from the former Torino boss, but made it clear nothing has been discussed yet:

“If you’d contacted me fifteen days ago, I would never have thought I would be speaking about the Azzurri being eliminated from the World Cup. No one has called me yet, the telephone hasn’t rung, but for me the important thing is to tackle all of the issues on the table, and that is not simply a matter of appointing a new coach.

“At the moment, I am in charge of Nantes. Being called by the national team is something special, a source of immense pride, but right now there is nothing concrete to say on the subject.”
