Real Madrid call off chase for £80m Man United star
Real Madrid are set to call off their chase of David De Gea, if the latest reports from Spain are accurate.
According to Don Balon (via the Mirror), Coach Zinedine Zidane recently lobbied the Merengues’ board to keep current shotstopper Keylor Navas, making the pursuit of the £80 million Manchester United man unnecessary.
President Florentino Perez has never hidden his dislike for the Costa Rican, who did a good job as Real beat Juventus 4-1 in the recent Champions League final.
De Gea has been linked to a return to his homeland since 2015, with Real Madrid in hot pursuit.
Zidane also asked the Real Madrid board to keep Alvaro Morata, who was signed back from Juventus last season for €30 million but has only made 14 Liga starts.
The Frenchman has done a good job of keeping the Real Madrid changing room stable this season, limiting player outbursts and earning the team’s trust. He is sticking to his guns, and the results have already spoken for him.
