Real Madrid join race to sign Colombian defender

If reports from Spanish daily Don Balon are to be believed, La Liga giants Real Madrid have joined arch-rivals FC Barcelona in the race to sign Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina.

Mina, 23, has attracted the attention of a host of clubs with his impressive performances for the Brazilian side and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were also said to be after him this past summer, apart from Barcelona.

It is said that Barcelona had already agreed a deal to sign the defender, with him set to join the club next season, but Real Madrid are now looking to steal a march on their rivals by igniting interest in the Colombian defender.

The Los Blancos will look to take advantage of the fact that Barcelona’s increasing wage bill is not exactly allowing them to bring in new players and the Catalans would need to sell players before buying anyone new from elsewhere.

Mina has been one of the Brazilian league’s most important defenders over the past season. This season though, he has scored four times in 18 appearances for Palmeiras.
