Report: Liverpool & City target to have low release clause in new Napoli contract

Liverpool and Manchester City are known to be long time admirers of Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam who has eight months left in his contract with the Serie A giants.

Both Premier League giants are reported to have scouted the Algeria International during the current campaign but according to a report of La Gazzetta dello Sport Ghoulam has now reached an agreement to extend his stay at the San Paolo for the next four years.
Ghoulam is regarded as one of the best left-backs in Serie A and Napoli are aware of how crucial the Algerian is for their squad.

The player’s agent Jorge Mendes, however, has managed to add a release clause in his client’s new deal.

According to the Italian paper, quoted by NapoliSoccer, Ghoulam will have a € 35 million release clause included in his new Napoli contract.

The player’s release fee is not too high given that the player is among the best three Serie A left-backs and Manchester City paid € 58 million to sign Benjamin Mendy this past summer. Even though Mendy may have a better International appeal than Ghoulam, the latter would be a great value for money.

Ghoulam’s release clause will reportedly only be valid for clubs outside Serie A.
