REPORT: Roma want to keep Szczesny, Spalletti thinks he guarantees quality

It looks like AS Roma will be going into next season with two top-level goalkeepers on their roster. Though the Giallorossi are set to bring in Brazilian shotstopper Alisson - Dunga's choice to start in goal for Brazil - it doesn't mean they're set to get rid of Wojciech Szczesny.

Reports indicate that Coach Luciano Spalletti sees him as someone who guarantees quality in goal. Even though Roma don't have a buy-back option, competition from David Ospina and Petr Cech may well sway Arsenal to sell the Polish goalie, though Spalletti has indicated that he expects Arsenal to "lower his price to a fee that us mortals can pay".

Director of Sport Walter Sabatini has also emphasized that, if he stays, Szczesny "will compete with Alisson for a spot on the team. We're happy to welcome Alisson, he's Brazil's Number 1 and he certainly won't be loaned out".

Why are Roma so ready to do this? There's another reason behind this logic: Alisson isn't just set to play in the Copa America, there's a chance he may compete in this summer's Olympic Games, though recent signs have Dunga going for someone else. Either way, the Brazilian will be tired, and in need of time to get used to the rigours of Italian football. Oh, and Roma may well have an early qualifying game to make it to the Champions League group stages... and they want someone they can trust now.

Szczesny himself has recently revealed that he wants to stay in Rome, something which certainly didn't emerge from his first few months at the Olimpico.
