REVEALED: Juve wanted to snag Napoli Higuain star last summer

Paulo Dybala vs Gonzalo Higuain, a challenge inside the challenge, next Saturday at the Juventus Stadium. What would have happened if the two Argentine strikers played for the same club? Maybe, the run for the scudetto would have been nonsense. Who could have dreamt of such option? Well, it wasn’t just a dream: as revealed by calciomercato.com, in fact, Juve indeed wanted to sign the former Real Madrid man.

As well known, after signing Dybala himself, the Piedmont’s team boss Massimiliano Allegri asked for an attacking midfielder, and in addition to Isco and Oscar, he was also thinking about Napoli 28-year-old Marek Hamsik. But the real target for the Tuscan tactician was Higuain indeed.
An Italian proverb says: “it’spermissible to ask, answer is courtesy”: well, Napoli didn’t even answer “no thanks”. On the other hand, last summer, El Pipita’s situation was different: the player was going through a difficult period and nobody would have bet on Napoli as Serie A leaders; in any case, there was just one way to sign the Argentine: paying his €95 million release clause. Juve CEO Marotta didn’t go any further, and for Napoli it was the best thing that could happen. Now, there will be just one chance to see the two forwards together on the picth: while playing for the Argentina national team or Saturday night in Turin.
