Revealed: Real star missed CL final due to Man United 'distraction'

Real Madrid benched James Rodriguez because of his potential move to Manchester United, according to Antena3 (via Fichajes.net).

The Spanish outlet believe that Coach Zinedine Zidane benched both the Colombian and team-mate Pepe because their focus is no longer on the Liga club, but on a move elsewhere.

James has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United, while having rebuffed Inter Milan and also being on PSG’s radar.

The Colombian has only made 13 Liga starts this season, a major cause for concern for a player who was acquired in 2014 for a whopping 75 million.

The 25-year-old isn’t getting enough consideration at the Bernabeu, something Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed to AS a few days ago:

“I’d rather he stayed because I think he’s a very good player, and he should stay because he still has a lot to give to this club, and is still very young.

“He has his reasons and we need to respect them.

“If he’s not feeling right and he wants to play more, he needs to do what’s best for him.”
