ROMANO From Inter’s interest to becoming untouchable: the Edin Dzeko story

Barely a few months ago, he was one of Serie A’s most mocked players.

Edin Dzeko was, in fact, doing so badly in Rome that Coach Spalletti was chipping away at him in press conference while establishing an attacking trio without him, attracting long-time admirers Inter Milan. Director of Sport Piero Ausilio called his Roman colleague, Walter Sabatini,  letting him know that he’d try to buy him in July, and that he was the first alternative to Mauro Icardi.

And yet, Sabatini said he was untouchable. What happened? Basically, the Bosnian met the club on numerous occasions, and voiced his determination to stay and fight, even at the cost of starting on the bench. This left a very positive impression on Roma, Sabatini and Spalletti, the latter of whom began to utter words of encouragement in front of the press.

Sunderland’s timid approach didn’t get anywhere, neither did a Chinese club, who made a good offer to Roma and a massive one (12/13m a YEAR) to the Bosnian.

Dzeko said no to both, and has since become indispensable, untouchable in Rome, leading the team’s scoring charts with 4 Serie A goals and being considered a
    30-35m talent.

    What a turnaround!
