Sampdoria: €40m Atletico Madrid target is going nowhere

Sampdoria are determined not to sell Lucas Torreira in January, if Antonio Romei is anything to go by.

The young Uruguayan midfielder has taken Serie A by storm, even scoring at the weekend against Chievo Verona.

Atletico Madrid were rumoured to have a pre-contract arrangement with Sampdoria, with Coach Diego Simeone very interest in signing the strong-tackling 21-year-old. Recent rumours indicated that the Colchoneros were ready to spend a whole 40 million for him.

The talk was that the Uruguayan could leave in January, but Romei didn’t agree.

“Clauses? We won’t talk about them,” Antonio Romei told Telenord.

“There are some complicated, contractual issues.  Torreira is a treasure for Samp and he’ll be with us for the rest of the season.

“He’s grown tremendously, he’s sincere in his approach, he wants to make it and is both competitive and determined.”

Torreira is liked by a number of clubs in Italy, too, so he’s in for an exciting summer...
