Should Roma sack Di Francesco if they lose against Inter?

Roma will face Inter tomorrow evening at the Stadio Olimpico in what could be a decisive match for the home side and for coach Di Francesco's, whose position is no longer so safe after a series negative result and an overall bad start to the season.

Roma currently sit 7th in the Serie A table with the same amount of points as the likes of Sassuolo and less than Parma. The club from the capital has had its ups and downs this season, as they collected some impressive wins against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League or Lazio in the league. In contrast, however, Roma have lost matches they should have won, such as last week's match against Udinese or a 0-2 loss at home against Spal.

After an unforgettable last season for Roma, this is a disappointing dip in form for the Giallorossi, who have never hidden their high ambitions, despite acting otherwise on the transfer market. But this season it seems that the team lacks something. It is not as organized and the football displayed is definitely not appreciated in the historical capital.

The match against Inter could represent a turning point in either direction. Either Di Francesco's men prevail over Spalletti's and it could kick-start their season, or it could be a final straw for the management and the former Sassuolo coach could leave.

In the latter case, it would probably be rational and reasonable to consider sacking Di Francesco for the reasons mentioned above and for the fact that it seems that the team is unable to find an impulse to do well under his leadership. At the same time, if Roma lose a direct Champions League clash, while Lazio and AC Milan defeat their opponents (Chievo and Parma), they would find themselves in a bad position, seven points from a position guaranteeing UCL football for next season.
