Inter analysis: Spalletti has six options available to play as a trequartista

Inter are currently working to find the right shape for the team. Inter continues to win in the league collecting 16 out of a possible 18 points, with the team constantly adapting, predominantly in the attacking department.

Inter coach Spalletti is working diligently on the role of the trequartista, a fundamental position for his style of play and ideas. Gazzetta dello Sport points out who has been used in this role and has caused a few surprises.

The former Roma coach has used different players in that position to various degrees of success: Borja Valero in three games vs Bologna, Crotone and Spal, Brozovic in two games against Fiorentina and Genoa, and finally Borja Valero again vs Roma – trying to find the right solution.

But the coach has a number of other alternatives who could fill the role for the team. Italian international Eder, who happens to always play behind Icardi, as well as the two wingers Antonio Candreva and Ivan Perisic. All three maybe trailed in the position to test their effectiveness.

Candreva, who has struggled to score this season but has laid off an assist could regain some of his confidence by playing in as trequartista. Perisic is also another viable option, however it would mean depriving the team of their most effective winger this season.
