Spurs looking to complete deal for England ace before they depart for the US

Spurs have made Everton and England midfielder Ross Barkley their priority summer transfer target. The North London club want the 23-year-old to head to the capital and they want the deal done quickly. According to The Mirror, boss Mauricio Pochettino wants the player to join the squad for their US tour which commences later this week but there is a problem.

Last season’s Premier League runners-up value Barkely at £30; Everton however, are understood to be holding out for at least £50M. Having just sold defender Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £54M, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants to invest the cash in strengthening his own squad and the Liverpool born star is the top priority.

Barkley himself wants a move to the capital and is understood to have close friends that he’s determined to make it happen. His current boss Ronald Koeman wants him to remain at Goodison Park and has tried to convince him to sign a new £100,000-a-week deal; Barkley’s refusal to do this has almost certainly triggered his exit from the club but his final destination remains uncertain.
