The backstory behind the Montella, Conte, AC Milan & Roma

AC Milan coach Vincenzo Montella was closer to signing for his former club Roma during the summer according to Sky Sport. It had been reported on Thursday at Stamford Bridge that the former Roma striker had been considered for the Roma post before Di Francesco inevitably took the role. This is important as current Chelsea coach Conte had been linked to a return to Italy during the summer.

Montella and Di Francesco were considered the only possible candidates for the Roma post once it became known that then coach Luciano Spalletti would be joining Inter. Conte was also in high demand for both the Milan and Roma positions given his success at the Euro’s guiding Italy, forging a strong and coherent group. That work was evident once again at Chelsea last season as he guided the club back to the title, and importantly a return to the Champions League.

How interesting would it have been to see Montella at Roma, and the fiery Conte at AC Milan?

Serie A would certainly be highly interesting
