No, the New York Cosmos haven't signed a new player as they prepare for the NASL championship match next week.

Rare photos (click the gallery) from 2011 show Arsenal legend, and current New York City FC manager, Patrick Vieira practicing and playing for his club's bitter rival...against his old club's bitter rival.

Following the official retirement of Manchester United's Paul Scholes, the Red Devils hosted a friendly to send the midfielder off.

The team they invited to play against were the newly-reformed New York Cosmos; the iconic American soccer team.

At one time the Cosmos boasted rosters featuring Pelé, Giorgio Chinaglia, Franz Beckenbauer, and Carlos Alberto. More recently they included Raul and Marcos Senna.

But for one day the Cosmos' roster, which was organized by technical director Eric Cantona, featured the man who'd they later humiliate in the 2016 U.S. Open Cup with an 89th minute winner. It was the second consecutive season the Cosmos ousted the heavily-favored NYCFC of MLS.
