Three Manchester City fans and a restaurant owner have been injured in a violent attack in the Naples, ahead of the Citizens’ Champions League clash against Napoli on Wednesday, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Around 1300 fans are supposed to be travelling to Naples to watch the game on Wednesday and while there were no security issues previously, this incident is likely to raise tensions.

Three British Manchester City fans and a restaurant owner were injured during a violent attack near the Parthenopean seafront by a group of violators, who were Napoli fans.

The Manchester City fan club consisted four members and all of them were dining at Cesario Console's cafeteria, when a herd of Napoli supporters entered, abusing and throwing objects.

The four escaped and three of them sought shelter at a pizzeria in via Saint Lucia, while the fourth took shelter in a restaurant at via Nazario Sauro. The Napoli fans chased the three into the pizzeria, whose owner defended the Manchester City fans and managed to take the aggressors away.

The aggressors though, hit the owner on the nose, causing a fracture that will take 25 days to heal. One City fan out of the four was left unharmed, while the two were left wounded in a mild manner. The fourth reported a shoulder injury which will take a month to heal.

Police investigations are now underway.
