Tottenham are set to chase Chris Smalling of Manchester Unied, according to the Sun.

The Wapping daily reports this morning that the Red Devils will let the England international walk now that they’ve signed Viktor Lindelof, leaving Smalling surplus to requirements.

Liked by Arsenal, Everton and West Ham, Smalling’s role has been limited enough already, the former Fulham man starting fifteen Premier League games last season for the Red Devils.

Tottenham, for their part, want cover at the back for Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, and are set to offload Kevin Wimmer, who they value at around £20 million and is not a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Smalling could also end up at Arsenal (who need a third option behind Mustafi and Koscielny) or indeed Everton.

Though their defence was one of the best in the Premier League last season, the North Londoners had to deal with long-term injuries to both Alderweireld and Vertonghen.
