Transfer news: Roma’s plan to hold on to Man Utd and Chelsea target

Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini is a wanted man. The 22-year-old is considered one of Roma’s brightest young Italian talents but it appears that the former Sassuolo man is now wanted by both Manchester United and Chelsea, with the Red Devils pulling away in pole position.

According to what has been reported by Il Corriere dello Sport, Monch, Roma’s sporting director, is going to employ a last-ditch effort to keep hold of the midfielder, offering him a new contract with a bigger salary.

As an insurance, CorSport suggest that Monch is also looking at Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, who the Amsterdam side value at around €40m. Roma will look to use the track created through the purchase of Justin Kluivert last summer to pip Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United to this talent as well. If Roma sell Pellegrini to United, they really open the door for the purchase of van de Beek – but Monchi would like Pellegrini, first and foremost, to stay on in the Italian capital.
