UCL Final: Real Madrid 4-1 Juventus: Player Ratings with commentary

Real Madrid have conquered Europe once again with an impressive 4-1 victory over Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo was the man of the match, as his 2 goals showed the world that he has the scoring touch of a true champion. Here are the player ratings for both sides:

JUVENTUS

BUFFON - 5 - It was not Gigi’s night, and he could have asked for more from his defenders.

BARZAGLI - 5.5 - He showed his positional awareness and one on one defending, but was limited going forward and lacked an attacking dynamic.

BONUCCI - 5 - Leo played good for most of the match, but in decisive moments he needed to be sharper. Also limited playing out of the back as a creator.

CHIELLINI - 5 - Juve’s hard man was suspect on two of the goals, allowing just an extra bit of space for Ronaldo to find a shooting lane.

ALEX SANDRO - 5 - The Brazilian was lively on the left flank, but never provided the service Juve needed to find the back of net.

PJANIC - 5 - He lacked rhythm in his passing and had a hard time containing Madrid’s midfielders

KHEDIRA - 6 -The German did provide balance for his side’s midfield, but did not have the extra boost to change the game.

DANI ALVES - 5.5 - Former Barca man was active and lively, covering lots of spaces with his skill and pressure. But like his Brazilian counterpart, he never found the space to create service for his teammates.

DYBALA - 4.5 - One of Juve’s underperforming players on the night. The young Argentine often lossed the ball, his touch looked too loose under pressure, and never found the linking passes to Higuain in attack.

MANDZUKIC - 6.5 - The large Croatian scored Juve’s lone goal on a spectacular effort, but was also beat to the ball by Modric for Madrid’s third goal.

HIGUAIN - 5 - Pipita never really challenged Navas, but can blame his teammates for a lack of service and quality passes in dangerous areas.

REAL MADRID

NAVAS - 6.5 - Rarely tested, but he was there when needed for the Merengues.

CARVAJAL - 7 - Active in attack and defense, he gave balance to the right flank for Madrid and kept Mandzukic busy.

VARANE - 6.5 - The central defender did well to combat Higuain’s runs, and was solid in possession.

RAMOS - 6.5 - For the football traditionalists his antics ruin the game, but you can’t argue with its effectiveness.

MARCELO - 7.5 - The speedy and skillful Brazilian showed once again why he is the best left back in the world, covering the left flank endline to endline and keeping Juve busy.

MODRIC - 7.5 - The crafty Croatian was a joy to watch, his creative touch always keeping the Bianconeri on their back foot.

KROOS - 7.5 - The German was intelligent and strong on the ball, keeping a balance between possession and counterattacks.

CASEMIRO - 8.5 - A great game from the versatile midfielder, who covered most of the field, drew fouls, completed passes, and can thank a deflection for making his goal appear masterclass.

RONALDO - 9 - The only thing missing from the world’s best scorer was a third goal. If there was an individual duel between CR7 and Buffon behind the scenes, the Portugal international won easily.

BENZEMA - 7 - Industrious and effective even without having too many clear chances, the Frenchman continues to be a solid striker who can play multiple roles throughout matches.

ISCO - 8.5 - Perhaps the second best player on the field, the Spanish attacking midfielder confused Juventus from the first minute, always arriving in spaces between lines. His skill and vision were a difference maker on the night, and can rest assured he was the right choice over Bale.
