Vialli: ‘Cancer made me a better person’

Former Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea striker Gianluca Vialli revealed that he’s been fighting with cancer for the last year.

Speaking to Che Tempo Che Fa on Rai 1 on Sunday night, the former Italy striker added more details about his fight with the illness: “I’m struggling to say it, but the experience of cancer has made me a better person. Everybody thinks I’ve faced it with bravery, but the truth is that most of the times I was scared.”

“The idea of writing the book is linked with my desire of helping who has had a similar situation. I’ve faced the illness with the same spirit that I had when I was a footballer. I had short- and long-term objectives that helped me to overtake the illness. I think that has really helped me.”

Several clubs and personalities of Italian and European football sent messages to Vialli after he revealed he has been fighting with cancer last week.
